Building Homes
Futuro del Oro offers families in Colonia Lazaro Cardenas the chance to have a solid roof over their heads. Work parties provide materials and labor to construct a simple 12' x 16' home. Futuro homes are built in less than one week's time, but the impact for homeowner and builders alike lasts for a lifetime.
Work parties come from all over the U.S. to build homes with Futuro del Oro. A cement foundation is poured prior to arrival and materials may be purchased locally. A minimum knowledge of simple, 2' x 4' construction is required. Groups numbering anywhere from 6 to 40 are welcome to stay at Futuro's community center while they build homes. Interaction between the work party and the home owner varies depending on the family's work schedule, but can be very rewarding.
Side trips can include shopping (bargaining for deals!) in downtown Tijuana, a 1/2 hour drive to the beach in Rosarito or even a trip to the San Diego Zoo.
